A rapid intra-adrenal feedback mechanism unveiled!

12th November 2014

Research published today in the Journal of the Royal Society Interface has reveiled that glucocorticoid homrones can regulate their own secretion via a rapid intra-adrenal feedback mechanism. Combining experimental physiology with advanced mathematical modelling, Walker and colleagues further demonstrated that this mechanism could be transiently disinhibited, permitting a rapid release of glucocorticoids in response to stressful stimuli, whilst ensuring that the system would not down regulate through over secretion of hormones.
